DS Penske became the first Formula E team to unveil their season 10 livery on Monday morning, with it being “more golden” than their season nine livery which was used to kick-off the Gen3 era.
For the 2023/24 campaign, DS Penske have ditched a lot of the black from last season’s livery and replaced it with more gold. They’ve essentially reversed where the chrome gold and black were last season, something which will make the DS E-TENSE FE23 glisten under the lights in Diriyah and London.
Their new design is certainly more eye-catching than last season’s, which was actually a fan favourite. DS Penske’s design team were keen to make the lines of their car pop more, with Head of Design Sean Bull having wanted to improve “upon perfection”.
“With it being a clear and dramatic evolution on last year’s design we wanted to make the lines of the car fit even better with the exciting shapes of the Gen 3 car,” Bull said. “Extremely proud of this design and the combination of working closely with team and DS Automobiles we believe we have improved upon perfection.”
DS Penske will be hoping that their new livery brings them more success in the second season of the Gen3 era, after the opening campaign of the new cars was somewhat underwhelming. Jean-Éric Vergne very much ended up being the team’s best performer, with the Frenchman having been responsible for the team’s only victory of season nine in Hyderabad.
Competing with the Porsches and the Jaguars was a real struggle for the entire team; however, Vergne has noted that everyone “has been preparing very hard” to ensure that they are in better shape for season 10 pre-season testing.
“Unveiling the new look of the car is always an exciting time of year for the team and I share everyone’s enthusiasm. This livery is undoubtedly more modern, more golden,” Vergne said.
“Most importantly It is a checkpoint in the pre-season calendar, we are two weeks away from the official test days in Valencia, the whole team has been preparing very hard for this event and I can’t just wait to get started!”
Season nine was massively disappointing for Stoffel Vandoorne, who endured a miserable start to the Gen3 era. Having entered the new era as the reigning World Champion, many wondered if this would give him an additional boost. This wasn’t the case.
He came nowhere near to defending his title and didn’t claim a single rostrum in the 2022/23 season, leaving him to end his title defence all the way down in P11. That was last season though, with Formula E’s centurion campaign being a whole new opportunity for the Belgian driver.
His “ultimate goal” for season 10 is to “return to points-paying finishes” and to get the team’s “fast and aggressive” new livery “back in front”.
“I like this new livery, it looks fast and aggressive!” stated Vandoorne.
“We head into a new season and our ultimate goal is to deliver strong performances and return to points-paying finishes. Racing at the front requires resilience, hard work and determination, I will leave no stone unturned in the chase for every millisecond and get our black and gold car back in front!”
