Jost Capito is expected to comfirm he will join McLaren in the role of Formula 1 CEO at the next round on the calendar in Belgium, after confirming Rally Germany this weekend will be his last event as Volkswagen Motorsport boss.
Capito signed a contract to join McLaren way back in January this year, but made it clear that he would only make the move when a suitable successor had been found at Volkswagen.
Whilst the German manufacturer has yet to confirm his replacement, an announcement is expected within the next fortnight, with Capito confirming he will attend his final rally this weekend, just a week before F1 returns from its summer break.
The mastermind behind Volkswagen’s WRC entry back in 2013, which has seen the team win three consecutive drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles with Sébastien Ogier and the Polo R, has been hired by McLaren to oversee its F1 team as it seeks to return to the top step of the podium once again.
Whilst formal start date has been agreed, it is expected he will oversee operations next weekend in Belgium as he settles into his role before officially starting in September at the Italian GP.
