The Renault Sport F1 team has received a major boost to its budget as it seeks to move up the order in its second season, whilst accelerating its original five-year plan to win races and championships.
Following its takeover of the Lotus outfit late last year, Renault put in place a plan which would see it capable of winning championships from 2020 onwards.
However following a parent group board meeting, an increased budget for the team has been agreed, with the hope that on-track success will come sooner, according managing director Cyril Abiteboul.
"Talking about investment, the one thing we are doing is bringing forward our plans and increasing the total package," Abiteboul told Autosport.
"We had put together a five-year plan, with an investment package, but a couple of weeks ago we had approval to increase that package and bring it forward.
"What we want is to make a difference as quickly as possible, and for that there is no better way than to accelerate what we need to do over the five-year plan."
That has already begun to pay dividends according to Abiteboul, with their 2017 car already delivering big gains in the wind tunnel.
"Each time we are putting the 2017 car into the windtunnel there are big steps, a big, big chunk of downforce, which will ultimately bring laptime, so it's good," he concluded.
