Marcus Ericsson will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from the Hungaroring pitlane, after Sauber opted to change his chassis.
The Swedish driver crashed out of Formula 1 qualifying in the first segment, which took place in challenging conditions following a heavy rain shower.
Ericsson went off at Turn 8 and hit the wall, bringing out the red flag. He was one of three drivers to crash during the session.
With just a few timed laps completed, Ericsson was eliminated from Q1 and his best attempt was outside the 107% rule.
Sauber opted to change Ericsson’s chassis after the shunt and this means he will have to start the race from the pits, F1 confirmed.
The FIA confirmed late on Saturday that those who dropped out in Q1 and were outside the 107% rule had been granted permission to race.
They were sent to the back of the grid and ordered by the FP3 result but the actual grid proved to be unchanged. Those who progressed to Q2 and Q3 but were outside 107% in Q1 were allowed to keep their positions due to “exceptional circumstances”.
