Jenson Button says he is "chuffed to bits" with his third place start for the Austrian Grand Prix, as some luck finally came his way this season.
The McLaren driver, who had yet to make a Q3 appearance all season, scraped through after problems hit the Toro Rosso of Carlos Sainz and the Force India of Sergio Perez.
Then during the final top-ten shoot-out, mixed weather conditions played to Button's strengths, allowing him to push to secure fifth, with penalties for Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel then promoting him to third.
"Great to be starting from third, it's a good position," he said after. "I'm gonna enjoy this moment.
"Amazing, it's a bit of luck – I'll take it, I don't feel like we've had much this year. I'm chuffed to bits, actually."
Button relished the mixed weather conditions which saw a late switch to slick tyres in Q3 on a quick drying track.
"I love those conditions, can we have those every race? It's mega, it was an enjoyable session. I saved everything for the last lap, I took a lot of risk and luckily there was no yellow flags. It worked out, so I'll take it when I can.
"There are conditions where I can't get the best out of the car, and because of the driving style I have there are conditions where I can. I feel the grip I have into the corner, rather than from memory."
