Renault's Kevin Magnussen and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo will both receive a boost for the Monaco Grand Prix, with each receiving Renault's upgraded power unit for the event – a race earlier than originally scheduled.
Renault had planned to debut the upgrade – which it tested during the two-day Spanish in-season test last week – in Canada, but with data showing it delivered a significant and reliable step forward, they have managed to ready two units in time for this weekend's race.
One will remain with Renault, whilst the second will be delivered to Red Bull. It has been decided that Magnussen and Ricciardo will race the units as they are ahead in the standings.
Jolyon Palmer and Max Verstappen will have to wait until Canada to get their hands on the engine, but that's not necessarily a big disadvantage as whilst it's expected to bring a half second gain at power sensitive tracks, around Monaco it's expected to deliver just a tenth.
