Red Bull were left shocked after unexpectedly winning the Spanish Grand Prix with team debutant Max Verstappen, who just three days ago, had never driven the RB12 following his promotion from Toro Rosso.
Verstappen was crowned Formula 1's youngest ever race leader, podium finisher and race winner at just 18-years-old, but it was only until the Mercedes cars crashed out on the opening lap that Horner truly believed it could become a reality.
"We're in shock as much as you guys," he said after the race. "We knew there was a chance when both Mercedes went off in the first lap but what Max has done is unbelievable.
"Max made a two-stop which was right on the limit and it worked beautifully for him. It is fantastic for F1 to have a new winner, a youngster on the top step of the podium at 18. He can't even drink the champagne.
"Occasionally odd results happen here, we saw Pastor Maldonado win a few years ago, but this was pure performance. Max has not put a foot wrong all weekend."
