Pirelli kicked off its tyre testing programme for the 2017 Formula 1 season with Ferrari on Tuesday.
F1’s official tyre supplier is testing at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit, with the team’s test driver Jean-Eric Vergne driving a 2014-specification F14-T car.
Pirelli is testing 2016 size tyres, featuring prototype elements aimed at developing larger tyres for the 2017 season.
Last month, Pirelli was given the green light to carry out unrestricted initial testing of its 2016 size, prototype 2017 tyres on 2013 or 2014 F1 machinery.
The Italian firm was also granted an increased allocation of 25 ‘car days’, using current cars and 2017 shape tyres, in order to prepare its tyres for 2017 and beyond.
