MotoGP’s Australian Grand Prix will remain at the Phillip Island circuit until at least 2026, the Victoria State Government has confirmed.
The track joined the MotoGP calendar in 1997 and has remained there ever since, proving to be a popular venue on the series’ schedule.
Government officials have now announced that the Australian GP’s future at Phillip Island, which hosted MotoGP testing earlier this year, has been secured for the next decade.
This year’s race is the 16th round of the 2016 season and takes place on the 23 October. Meanwhile the circuit will continue to host the World Superbike Championship until at least 2027.
"Our motorsports events at Phillip Island are flagship dates on our calendar, and they're going nowhere," said John Eren, Minister for Tourism and Major Events.
"Phillip Island will remain at the centre of world motorsport for many years to come. These events create a unique buzz around Phillip Island, attract visitors to Victoria from all over the globe, and show the world we have the best of everything."
