The first race of the IndyCar double-header from Iowa Speedway took place on Saturday afternoon, and it was a familiar face that took the winner’s trophy.
Josef Newgarden earned his fourth consecutive oval victory, cementing him and this Team Penske squad as the best in the business when it comes to driving on banking.
Scott McLaughlin crossed the line in second place, but he was over three seconds behind and was not able to challenge his team-mate in the closing laps. Pato O’Ward rounded out the podium with a solid drive behind the dominant duo out front.

The lone caution of the day came when Graham Rahal drifted too high in Turn 4 and hit the outside retaining wall. No others were involved, and he was the only retirement of the afternoon.
A second full-length race is on the schedule for Sunday, giving the entire paddock precious little time to recover and to close the gap to Newgarden.
