Mick Schumacher has had his first outing for McLaren’s Formula 1 team in Portugal on Wednesday.
Schumacher was left without a race seat for 2023 after his deal with Haas came to an end.
He instead took up a role with Mercedes as its reserve driver, and has already tested the W14 as part of last month’s post-Spanish GP tyre test.
An arrangement was also reached whereby Schumacher will be available to Mercedes’ customer McLaren in the event of either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri being ruled out of action.
Schumacher joined McLaren on Wednesday to test its 2021-spec MCL35M at former Portuguese Grand Prix venue Portimao.
Regular racer Piastri has previously tested the MCL35M this year to gain further Formula 1 experience while runaway IndyCar points leader Alex Palou has also tested the car.
Palou is expected to be on standby as a McLaren reserve driver later in the year once IndyCar’s season wraps in September.
