Romain Grosjean is remaining grounded despite continuing the new Haas Formula 1 Team's strong start to pre-season testing in Barcelona on Wednesday.
Grosjean completed 82 laps of running in the Haas VF-16 car and finished second in the final standings, extending the team's impressive showing in Barcelona.
However, Grosjean is refusing to get ahead of himself, saying that Haas is still dealing with teething problems typical of any new team during testing.
"The idea was to go over 100 laps. We didn’t quite manage that because we lost some time after lunchtime," Grosjean said.
"We had to repair some parts, we had quite a small glitch with the software. But generally we made some progress with the setup changes on the car, trying to understand how it was working in terms of aero, in terms of mechanical."
However, he was pleased that the first impressions he got from the car on Monday continued to be felt when he got back behind the wheel.
"Everyone is quite happy with the way it reacts, the way it goes in a good direction," Grosjean said. "The first impressions from the first day which were really good in the car are still there. I felt really good driving it.
"We have quite a lot of room for improvement in a lot of areas and a lot of work behind the scenes, but the guys are doing a good job and trying to learn how it goes and I think it was a positive day."
Grosjean's thoughts were echoed by team principal Steiner, who said that although Haas is on target, it is still pushing to get further ahead.
"You’re never ahead in Formula 1," he said when asked if Haas was ahead of where he expected to be. "You don’t know really where you want to be.
"I think we are making good progress. I would say ahead, we’re on target. We would like to be even further ahead. You always want more, you’re never satisfied to be honest."
