Sebastien Buemi and Sam Bird spent one session each at the top of the timesheets in practice for the Buenos Aires ePrix on Saturday at Puerto Madero.
Bird was one of just four drivers to complete a full power lap in FP1, allowing him to finish three-tenths of a second clear at the top of the standings with a fastest lap of 1:09.913.
The Briton was followed home by Daniel Abt and the NEXTEV TCR duo of Nelson Piquet Jr. and Oliver Turvey, who filled out positions two to four respectively.
Championship leader Sebastien Buemi did well to finish within a second of Bird's time in P5 despite not completing a 200kW lap in his Renault e.dams car.
However, the Swiss driver more than made up for it in the second session as he produced a stunning lap of 1:08.771 to end practice half a second clear of the pack.
Buemi was followed by title rival Lucas di Grassi, who ended FP2 narrowly ahead of Nicolas Prost in the second Renault e.dams car. Bird was able to continue DS Virgin's strong start by finishing fourth.
There is ongoing uncertainty about Jean-Eric Vergne's involvement in the race. The team had ruled him out after he had come down with food poisoning, only for the Frenchman to arrive at the track and claim that he felt much better. However, he took no part in FP2, meaning he has only shakedown under his belt if he is to take part in qualifying.
