Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne expects the Italian team to win from the get go when the 2016 season kicks off in just over two months time, after declaring it the year Ferrari “return to the top”.
Whilst Sebastian Vettel secured Ferrari’s first win since 2013 at just the second race of the season last year – and then a further two later in the season – Ferrari were unable to challenge Mercedes in the championship.
Marchionne believes they’re not far from being on a level with the German outfit and therefore expects them to challenge Formula 1’s current dominant force.
“The year of our return to the top has begun,” he told the ANSA news agency.
“The team is there… and we’re not far from reaching the level of our competitors.
“The investments won’t be lacking. We have invested a lot of financial resources – the work done in 2015 has laid an exceptional basis for a season of success in 2016.
“We must win right away….we must get back in the saddle immediately and reset to zero the difficulties of the past.”
