Carlos Sainz has topped the times in the opening practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, setting a lap time of 1:13.372.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton set the second and third fastest laps, respectively.

The session was interrupted by a short red flag period caused by Nico Hulkenberg making contact with the barrier at the Nouvelle Chicane which pushed one of his tyres off the wheel rim.
With just over three minutes remaining, the session ended early after Alex Albon collided with the barrier through Turn 1.
