Jenson Button claims current team-mate Fernando Alonso is tougher to beat than Lewis Hamilton when they were team-mates at McLaren for three seasons.
Hamilton and Button raced together at McLaren between 2010 and 2012 and whilst Button was beaten in two of those seasons, he believes Alonso presents a more consistent challenge when compared to his fellow Britain.
“In a race, it’s a bigger challenge, I would say, a more consistent challenge. He’s always there,” Button said of the Spaniard.
“On some race days, Lewis was untouchable. And on other race days, it was like, ‘where is he?’
“I’m guessing he’s a different driver now, more experienced, but Fernando is always there, always competitive.
“If he’s in front of you, you’re holding on, and if he’s behind you, he’s pushing you a lot,” he added. “That’s great, though, I like that. I think that’s important in a team.
Hamilton and Alonso spent a single season as team-mates in 2007 and ended the season all square in terms of points and race wins.
