Essential Formula 1 personnel have been permitted access to Imola’s paddock in order to begin packing up following the cancellation of this weekend’s race.
Formula 1 abandoned the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Wednesday due to excessive rainfall in the region – with almost half the annual rainfall total in 48 hours – which has caused flooding and landslides.
It has resulted in eight fatalities while thousands have been displaced amid severe disruption to transport links.
Personnel who were setting up infrastructure were instructed to leave the Imola paddock on Tuesday afternoon and were not permitted access through Wednesday.
Drone footage showed that while Formula 1’s paddock escaped water damage there was flooding in the support paddock and broadcast centre.
On Thursday conditions improved in order for essential personnel only to be allowed back into the circuit to pack up equipment ahead of next weekend’s event in Monaco.
It is not anticipated that there will be any delays in readying the equipment for the event in the Principality.
