FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem says he held discussions with business magnate Elon Musk regarding online abuse.
Musk, who is the owner of Twitter, was a paddock guest at the Miami Grand Prix last weekend.
F1 has been directly tackling online abuse for several months now – last year, it launched a campaign to raise awareness and drive out toxic abuse from its platforms.
In December 2022, the FIA revealed that 2,400 messages described as “severely toxic” had been blocked from appearing on social media through the use of AI.
The governing body has been partnering with Arwen.ai in an attempt to stamp out such messages.
Lewis Hamilton suggested last year that people should “probably get off” social media due to how much negativity exists on certain platforms.
Max Verstappen has also been critical of users who take to the platform only to dish out abuse to others.
“To immediately put me down like that is ridiculous to be honest, because they don’t know how I work within the team and what the team appreciates about me,” he said last year. “So all the things I’ve read are pretty disgusting.”
As F1 continues to look into the subject, Ben Sulayem says he discussed the matter with Musk during the race weekend from Miami.
