A track invader has been arrested by police after managing to gain access to the circuit during the Singapore Grand Prix, causing a long Safety Car period.
A fan was seen jumping feet first through an opening in the trackside fencing before sprinting across the circuit just as race leader Sebastian Vettel came onto the straight. He then walked alongside the circuit before exiting through a second opening.
The FIA confirmed the intruder had been taken into police custody.
“The Singapore Police Force have confirmed that a 27-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.
“This follows an incident in which an unidentified man gained unauthorised entry to the Marina Bay Street Circuit during tonight’s race.
“The man went on to the track near Turn 13, triggering the deployment of the Safety Car.
“We are awaiting the full report from the Clerk of the Course in order to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
CCTV footage of the incident shows exactly how he gained access.
