Ferrari critical of Red Bull’s threats to quit F1

Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has criticised Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz for his recent threats to quit the sport because of the rules and Renault’s lack of competitiveness.

The billionaire energy drinks owner told Speedweek that Renault is taking “not only time and money but also the will and motivation,” to compete in the sport, whilst reiterating threats to pull out.

“You cannot force someone to stay when he wants to leave,” he said in referenced to a contract which binds Red Bull to F1 until 2020.

Arrivabene however was critical of Mateschitz and Red Bull’s attitude simply because they’re not enjoying the same success they did between 2010 and 2014 when they won four titles.

“It is easy to be happy when you win four championships and easy to complain when you are not winning,” he said on Saturday.

“You have to accept when something goes wrong and when it goes right.

“F1 is like this,” he added. “You could have a couple of years when you are winning and a couple when you are losing and this is the beauty because if everything is predictable it is not a race, it is something different.”

It’s worth noting that former Ferrari management have echoed Red Bull’s current attitude by threatening to quit the sport several times when they weren’t winning.
