McLaren will bring a brand new nose box to the Austrian Grand Prix next weekend, after it finally passed the FIA’s mandatory crash test.
The shorter nose, which will look dramatically different to their current version, failed the governing body’s crash test on multiple occasions, but the team confirmed today that it passed Friday’s test.
“News from MTC [McLaren Technology Centre]: We can confirm that the new MP4-30 nose box has passed the FIA crash test and will be available to use from the Austrian GP,” the team tweeted.
Whilst the shorter nose will improve the downforce on the MP4-30, the team are still struggling for pace due to Honda’s power unit which is reportedly 80 horse power down on the dominant Mercedes unit.
