Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur has expressed confidence that Ferrari will be able to catch Red Bull over the course of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Red Bull has enjoyed a dominant start to the 2023 campaign, taking 1-2 finishes at the first two rounds in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Its race pace has notably out-trumped that of its rivals, with no one able to mount a challenge in the opening stage of the season.
Last time out in Jeddah, Ferrari endured a difficult race, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc crossing the line in sixth and seventh respectively.
Sainz was over half a minute down on race-winner Sergio Perez and finished behind both Red Bulls, an Aston Martin and the Mercedes duo.
Despite there being a sizeable gap to Red Bull, when asked if Red Bull could be caught, Vasseur said: “I think so. We have to continue to push.
“I think it’s not the right attitude to think about the gap, to think will we be able to close the gap and so on.
“We have to be focused on ourselves, that we know when we are weak, and we have to improve on this one.
“We will see what is the outcome, when we’ll do a decent step. But I think if you start to think about what could be the future potential and with development and so, you are lost.
“We know that we have to improve, but I think it’s the DNA of our sport.
“It’s not just due to the DNA of the current situation. We know that we have to work and we’ll continue, and be sure that from tomorrow morning, I’ll be in the office and push like hell.”
Ferrari currently sits fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing leaders Red Bull by 61 points.
