Nico Rosberg continued his success in Barcelona by topping the opening day of the in-season test on the back of his first win of the season at the same circuit.
The Mercedes driver’s 1:24.374 was unmatched by some margin, with Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson closest, albeit over two seconds down.
Rosberg also completed the most laps at 146, cementing Mercedes’ reliability dominance as well.
Ferrari’s Raffaele Marciello was third ahead of Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat and Lotus’s Pastor Maldonado.
Team’s took the opportunity to try new parts on their cars specific to the upcoming Monaco and Canadian races, but it was McLaren that tested the most items with driver Oliver Turvey sidelined for two hours whilst parts were upgraded.
