Kimi Raikkonen sees no reason why Ferrari can’t catch up to and maybe even surpass Mercedes this season following a strong showing of late.
Whilst the Italian outfit won in Malaysia thanks to Sebastian Vettel’s victory, they weren’t expected to challenge Mercedes at the next race in China.
However they were rarely more than a few seconds behind Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton despite the much cooler conditions which were expected to play to Mercedes’ advantage.
When asked if Ferrari could catch the Anglo-German team, Raikkonen responded: “Yes. I don’t see a reason why not.
“I think we have good plans already since last year and made big gains and will make big gains during this year.
“Everybody improves and it depends what the rest are doing but we trust the way our team is working altogether and what we are doing.”
The Finn knows it won’t happen overnight, but he is encouraged by what he’s seen so far and Ferrari’s results over the opening three races.
“It definitely shows we are going the right way and doing the right things but you need time – you cannot make miracles overnight.
“Like Seb showed, we could win but obviously it depends. One circuit can be good for one team and the next can be a different story.”
