NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton looks set to claim his fifth British Touring Car Championship Drivers’ title at Silverstone, which will break the all-time record.
It has seemed like a matter of when, not if, since Snetterton for Sutton, where he finished the third weekend of the season with four victories and four P2 finishes.
Such has been the scintillating form of NAPA’s new Ford Focus Saloon, that Dan Cammish now looks likely to pip Tom Ingram to P2 in the standings.
While Sutton has spent recent races playing the team game to support Cammish, he will head into Silverstone’s National layout knowing that only a catastrophic weekend will delay his title celebrations.
Last winning the crown in 2023, 2026 will see Sutton stand tall as the record Drivers’ Championship record victor — soon to have five to his name.
Though he will be unable to match Alain Menu’s record of victory with six races to go, with the points system making a Race to Pole outcome impossible, Sutton is likely to win it before Race 3 at Silverstone.
A slim five-point gain on Dan Cammish through Race 1 would see the #116 Ford Focus peel into parc fermé as the Drivers’ Champion, while any kind of sensible scoring would see an eventual 98-point gap after Race 2 enough to claim the title.
Should it go down to the final race of the weekend, Sutton’s current 115-point lead can fall all the way to 76 before Cammish and Tom Ingram would be able to extend the fight to the Brands Hatch GP weekend.
If it does, Suttons joint-record eight race wins in 2026 would see him in a favourable position should all manner of disasters happen to see the battle decided by a tiebreak.
