Pedro Acosta made a positive start to KTM’s home MotoGP race weekend by topping the timesheets in FP1 in Austria.
Acosta led the first 1-2 for KTM in any session since the 2025 Catalan GP as he remained top for almost the entire 45-minute practice.
Pol Espargaro crashed midway through FP1 but returned to the track to take second, ending KTM’s long wait for a 1-2 in a competitive session.
Jorge Martin suffered an early technical issue aboard his Aprilia and was forced to pull off the track, but was able to return to the garage and get back into the action to an eventual third, with Marc Marquez fourth on the Ducati.
Johann Zarco rounded out the top five after setting a time narrowly faster than Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez on the Aprilia RS-GPs.
Alex Marquez took eighth at the flag ahead of ninth-placed Diogo Moreira, while Luca Marini completed the top 10.
Fermin Aldeguer was 11th as 12th-placed Fabio Di Giannantonio edged in front of Jack Miller and Brad Binder by 0.061s.
Fabio Quartararo saw the flag in 15th, while Franco Morbidelli was the final rider within a second of the fastest time of the session down in 16th.
Enea Bastianini finished 17th ahead of another struggle for Francesco Bagnaia, while Ai Ogura took 19th on his injury return.
Takaaki Nakagami returned as a replacement for the unwell Joan Mir and took 20th ahead of Alex Rins in 21st.
Toprak Razgatlioglu struggled on his first visit to the Red Bull Ring since 2012 and completed the standings, two seconds off Acosta’s time.
