Pascal Wehrlein praised an ‘advantage’ heading into the final round of Formula E Season 12 and the heating-up championship battle.

With just five points separating the top three, Wehrlein sits on the precipice of a second Driver’s Championship title in Formula E. However, it won’t be simple with more drivers in the fray, and London is known for the chaos that unfolds around the Excel Centre.

Wehrlein looked to the weekend and set his focus on qualifying, with the best way to stay away from the chaos being to start near the front of the field.

“Well, what we need to do is, first of all, make sure we have a good car in qualifying and that we qualify well.” He told the media, including Motorsport Week.

“Somewhere in the top five is definitely needed. And then we prepare our strategy also, depending on where our competition is. I think there’s not one major thing you need to watch out for this weekend.”

With two races, one with Pitboost and one without, it means varying strategies that the teams will be implementing across the weekend. The German admitted that it’s a weekend where ‘putting the things together’ plays a significant role.

“It’s the same as other weekends, putting the things together, having a quick car, being efficient. Making the right calls and strategy at the right time.”

Strategy is key

With many drivers fighting for the championship, there comes the added strategy of teammates helping each other. Wehrlein admitted that that’s something he’ll be watching out for across the weekend and how it’ll impact the race.

“One thing we need to be careful of is probably how others are interacting with their teammates and what effect that will have in the race.

“Overall, definitely a demanding weekend and we want to be super alert in every circumstance.”

This isn’t Wehrlein’s first championship battle, with the German taking his maiden title at the London E-Prix two years ago in a similar situation. This left him with a key advantage, with the nerves of fighting for that first title.

“Well, I would say the advantage is that I’m not feeling nervous at all. I don’t feel like I have to prove that I can do it. We did that already.” He told the media.

“I know that I can do it. The team knows that we can all do it together. If we manage in the end, time will tell, but we need to make sure to be spot on, to be in the fight.”
