Porsche Formula E Team has revealed a special livery for this weekend’s crunch title showdown at the London E-Prix.

The German marque enters the final weekend of the all-electric championship’s 12 instalment having secured the Manufacturers’ title last time out in Tokyo.

Its works team has double interest in the Drivers’ Championship, with Pascal Wehrlein and teammate Nico Mueller both in contention.

The German driver sits third in the standings, just five points behind leader Jake Dennis, and like the Andretti driver, has the benefit of experience of having won the title in the capital before.

His dramatic leapfrogging of both Jaguar drivers in the Season 10 finale saw him take his, and Porsche’s, first title, and is in a good position to do so again.

Mueller is eighth and whilst mathematically capable of winning a maiden championship, is on the wrong end of the spectrum of likelihood, so could be utilised as a foil for Wehrlein should the circumstances arise.

Porsche will certainly hoping for some good luck with its one-off livery, which is a nod to the brand’s Le Mans-winning car of 1982, the 956 – and its evocative Rothmans cigarette branding livery.

The 956 locked out the podium with a 1-2-3 clean sweep that year, with Jacky Ickx taking his sixth win in the prestigious 24-hour race.

Rothmans had plenty of interest in motor racing over the years, with its branding on touring cars, Porsche’s Dakar-winning machine of 1984, and perhaps most famously, its four-year stint as title sponsor for the Williams Formula 1 team.

‘It feels good’ for Porsche to have Formula E title fight ‘in our own hands’

Porsche will be looking to secure the Teams’ Championship as well, completing a clean sweep of its own.

For Wehrlein, the team has scored its objective of being in contention at the final round, and issued a message of ‘giving everything’ to secure an historic hat-trick.

“Before the season, our goal was to arrive in London fighting for the titles,” he said. “That is the positive side. At the same time, there were several races this year where we could have achieved more. Even so, it feels good to know that we are still in the title fight and have everything in our own hands.

We have already won the Manufacturers’ World Championship. Now we will give everything to secure more titles.”
