MotoGP has officially confirmed that the Chang International Circuit in Thailand will host the first race of the 2027 regulations cycle.
The championship will begin its new 850cc era in the 2027 season, with the season set to start on 5-7 March next year.
Although the rest of the calendar is yet to be confirmed, MotoGP has announced that the first race of the new regulations cycle will take place at the popular Buriram track in Thailand.
It will mark the third consecutive year that the circuit hosts the season opener after taking over from the Qatar Grand Prix in 2025.
Thailand is considered an important market for the MotoGP series organisers given the vast motorcycling audience base in South East Asia.
This is also reflected in the record-breaking attendance in Thailand for the opening race in 2026, which saw 228,228 people witness Marco Bezzecchi’s triumph on the Aprilia in March.
“Hosting the MotoGP season opener for a third consecutive year is a testament to the outstanding partnership we have built in Thailand and the incredible passion of the fans,” said MotoGPSEG CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
“Buriram has consistently delivered one of the best events on our calendar, making it the perfect venue to launch MotoGP’s new technical era.
“The first race under the 2027 regulations will mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our sport, and we’re delighted to start that journey in Thailand.”
