Ducati’s Marc Marquez cantered to a record-equalling fifth consecutive MotoGP Sprint victory of 2025 at the Jerez circuit.
Marquez was virtually unchallenged throughout the race after polesitter Fabio Quartararo crashed out of second, with the Spanish rider crossing the line with over a second in hand on his brother Alex Marquez.
Marquez got the jump off the line with the superior speed of the Ducati, but polesitter Fabio Quartararo was able to respond with a late-braking move.
Alex Marquez also made a good start and passed Francesco Bagnaia into third place on the opening lap.
Fermin Aldeguer was another Ducati rider who made a strong start and pressured both Franco Morbidelli and Francesco Bagnaia, before almost losing the rear of his Gresini.
Marquez attempted to make his move for the lead on the second lap, and was able to level Quartararo into the braking zone of Turn 6.
As the eight-time World Champion made his way past for the race lead, Quartararo was forced off the racing line, which saw him crash out of the race after a strong start.
Gresini’s Marquez was promoted into second place and set the fastest lap of the race as he looked to chase after his brother at the front.
However, the elder Marquez responded almost immediately and built the gap to over a second, virtually quashing any chances of a duel between himself and the Gresini rider.
The gaps between the riders for the points positions remained at around a second for the remainder of the race, as the battle for 11th between Brad Binder and Ai Ogura appeared to be the sole action around the Jerez circuit.
Marquez dominated the remainder of the race to equal Jorge Martin’s record of five Sprint victories in a row around his home track.
The younger Marquez earned second place, continuing his streak of silver medals in Sprint action in 2025.
Bagnaia rounded out the Sprint podium in third after responding to a difficult start.
Morbidelli appeared to have the pace to challenge Bagnaia in the late stages of the race, but ultimately ran out of time and settled for fourth.
Aldeguer recovered from his first lap moment to take fifth, with Fabio Di Giannantonio’s sixth place ensuring it was all Ducati riders inside the top six.
Maverick Vinales was best-of-the-rest in seventh ahead of Marco Bezzecchi in eighth, while Joan Mir completed the points finishers in ninth.
The factory KTM riders were 10th and 11th respectively, with Pedro Acosta leading Binder over the line.
Ogura was unable to get the better of the South African and had to settle for 12th, with Luca Marini a distant three seconds behind in 13th.
Enea Bastianini took the flag in 14th ahead of Alex Rins in 15th, who had ridden his Yamaha despite suffering from a broken finger.
Raul Fernandez was 16th over the line as Augusto Fernandez continued his stand-in duties for Pramac in 17th.
Aleix Espargaro was 18th on his first Sprint outing as a wildcard for Honda, with Lorenzo Savadori 19th on his return to action for Aprilia.
Somkiat Chantra completed the finishers in 20th for the LCR Honda team.
Johann Zarco and Jack Miller suffered crashes in the Sprint and joined Quartararo as the riders who did not finish the race.
