Antonio Giovinazzi and Dries Vanthoor topped the timesheets in the second free practice session for the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Imola.
Unusually, both Giovinazzi and D. Vanthoor set the same la`ptime — 1:31.040 — in their #51 Ferrari 499P and #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 respectively. Giovinazzi, though, was officially top of the timesheets as he set his lap first, lap 4 compared to D. Vanthoor’s a lap later.
Third was Mick Schumacher in the #36 Alpine A424, almost a quarter of a second off the leading pair. Fourth was Giovinazzi’s teammate, Antonio Fuoco, in the #50 Ferrari, 0.354 off his countryman.
Fifth was Robin Frijns in the sister #20 BMW, another tenth and a bit off Fuoco ahead.
The first of the Cadillacs was sixth, with Sebastien Bourdais at the wheel, followed by Robert Kubica in the #83 AF Corse Ferrari. Eighth was Nyck de Vries in the fastest of the two Toyotas, with Bourdais’ Cadillac teammate Alex Lynn ninth and Julien Andlauer in the #5 Porsche 963 tenth.
In LMGT3, Clemens Schmid was quickest in the #87 ASP Lexus RC F GT3, with a 1:42.944. Second was his teammate, Finn Gehrsitz, just over a tenth off in the sister #78 ASP Lexus, while Kelvin van der Linde was third in the #46 WRT BMW M4 GT3.
Alessio Rovera was fourth in the #21 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3, while Augusto Farfus was fifth in the #31 WRT BMW.
