Formula 1 has made the stunning announcement that the Monaco Grand Prix will change to a night race starting in 2026.
After years of stagnation and limited overtaking, event organisers feel it’s time for a change when F1 races around the principality.
Proposed to liven the otherwise dull racing spectacle, Monaco will be raced under the floodlights from next year onwards.
Recent years have seen the Monaco GP spectacle feature less and less overtaking, and it’s hoped that switching to a night race will mitigate the dullness of the racing.
It will be the first time Monaco has ever run under the cover of darkness.
Lessons learned from the Singapore and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be applied to ensure the Monaco night race lives up to its full potential.
F1 recently extended the Monaco GP contract last year through 2031.
On the original 1950 F1 calendar, Monaco is one of the longest-serving venues in the series.
Other circuits that have recently signed contract extensions with F1 include Spa-Francorchamps, which has signed a rotational deal.
Less traditional circuits have formed a stronger foothold within the F1 calendar in recent years, forcing classic venues to up their game to appeal to F1 management.
Surely, though, a Monaco Night race is a step too far for the sake of F1 entertainment?
Well, of course it is, April Fools (if you hadn’t already guessed)!
Besides the fact that it’s April 1st, this would be cool at night!
Hi, yes i must agree it would be cooler for drivers technicians and everyone involved in F 1.
Still not going to chance the fact you can’t not over take 🤦♂️
