Organisers of the new Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid next year have unveiled a unique name for the circuit, introducing the ‘Madring’.
The street-based venue will weave F1 cars around the Ifema exhibition centre and will host the Spanish GP from 2026 on a 10-year deal, and it was confirmed late last year that Formula 2 and Formula 3 will race at the venue throughout its contract.
On Monday, race organisers unveiled the ‘Madring’ branding and explained the reasoning behind the name change.
“Formula 1 circuits are typically referred to by the city or region where they are located – Monza, Imola, Interlagos, Spa, Silverstone, Miami, Las Vegas,” a statement read.
“However, their full official names are rarely used. For this reason, Madring aims to establish a concise and memorable identity that directly references its host city, is instantly recognisable worldwide, and requires no translation.”
“Ultimately, it is more than just a name — it is a genuine, distinctive, and iconic brand, designed to resonate with a modern and engaged F1 audience.”
The ‘Madring’ circuit is designed by Dromo, which has previously worked on Zandvoort and Sepang, and is a 5.5km layout comprising 1.5km of public roads.
In January, the Mayor of Madrid, Jose Luis Marintez-Almeida expressed that preparations of the circuit are commencing as planned.
Speaking to Europa Press, the Mayor said the race “will be held and will be a success.”
