Andrea Kimi Antonelli has gone fastest in the first session of the Formula 1 pre-season testing programme at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The Mercedes rookie set a time of 1:31.428s after 78 laps, 0.132s quicker than the Red Bull of Liam Lawson, the Kiwi running 20 laps less.
Alex Albon’s Williams was next with a 1.31.573s, his best time coming in a 63-lap stint, with Yuki Tsunoda’s Racing Bulls fourth, 0.162s off the fastest time, covering 77 laps.
In his first public outing for Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton was fifth, setting a 1:31.843s after 70 laps of running.
Jack Doohan’s Alpine set 68 laps and for his endeavours, finished in sixth spot, with a 1:31.841s.
Fernando Alonso completed the fewest laps of any of the drivers running with 46, and clocked a fastest personal time of 1:31.874s.
Oscar Piastri’s McLaren was eighth-fastest, with a 1:32.169s over 65 laps.
Nico Hulkenberg, in his first official run in a Sauber, set a 1:32.169s with 55 completed in total.
Oliver Bearman’s Haas rounded-up the top 10 with a 1:35.522s, over 72 laps.
The session was completed largely without incident, the only notable moment coming from Lawson, who spun on the exit of Turn 3.
The second session, in which the remaining 10 drivers on the grid will take to the track, will commence at 15:00 local time, 12:00 BST.
