Dale Coyne Racing has announced that Rinus VeeKay will drive for the team in the upcoming 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season.
VeeKay was let go from Ed Carpenter Racing at the end of last season after having driven five seasons with the team.
He recorded one win on the Indianapolis road course in 2021, but has only occasionally logged finishes inside the top 5 over the past couple years.
When the Dutch driver was let go, he joined a few other talented drivers that were without a ride for the upcoming season.
He has beat out the others by earning a full time seat with DCR, and the 24-year-old will now compete in his sixth IndyCar season in the #18 entry.
“I’m incredibly excited to announce that I will be competing with Dale Coyne Racing in the 2025 IndyCar season!” said VeeKay on social media.
“Can’t thank Dale and his team enough for the opportunity. Let’s kick some ass!”
No more open seats
VeeKay’s appointment fills the final remaining open seat for the 2025 season.
There were a few capable drivers still looking for a ride, including the 2022 IndyNXT champion and 2024 IndyCar Rookie of the Year Linus Lundqvist.
Lundqvist finds himself once again looking in from the outside, as a lack of proper funding continues to prevent him from getting a proper foothold in the series.
VeeKay will have rookie Jacob Abel as a team-mate, and will be tasked with helping the 23-year-old get up to speed.
There is a wide experience gap between the two drivers despite one year separating their ages.
Both drivers are expected to take the track with DCR next week for a full field preseason test at Sebring Raceway, followed by the first race of the season on the streets of St. Petersburg on March 2.
