Gianmaria Bruni has joined JDC Miller MotorSports for their 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship campaign in the GTP category.
The Italian will join Tijmen van der Helm, who will take on his third consecutive season with the team, as full-season drivers.
IMSA’s calendar comprises of endurance and sprint races, the latter of which requiring only two drivers.
Last year he drove in his first full season campaign of IMSA with Proton Competition’s Porsche 963. Although he is no longer a Porsche works driver, Bruni has continued his affiliation through JDC Miller – another of Porsche’s customer GTP teams.
Bruni said: “I am very happy to be joining JDC-Miller MotorSports for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech Championship season.
“I spent a few days with the team at the Daytona tests in November, and I can’t wait to work with them throughout the entire IMSA championship… I am looking forward to working with my new teammates at Daytona and through the entire WeatherTech season.”
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Gimmi to the JDC-Miller family,” added John Church, managing partner at JDC Miller MotorSports.
“His impressive track record and deep understanding of sports car racing speak for themselves.
“We believe his experience and skill will be instrumental in our pursuit of success in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
“He and Tijmen are the pair of world-class drivers we need to compete for the championship.”
Bruni’s experience with Porsche
Bruni is a two-time FIA World Endurance Champion in the former GTE Pro category when he drove for AF Corse from 2012 to 2016.
His relationship with Porsche began in the 2018-19 WEC Super-Season in their GTE program having taken the latest of his four Le Mans 24 Hours class-victories in 2022.
As Porsche’s factory and customer programs took shape in 2023, Bruni joined Proton Competition during the final three races of the WEC season in which they had their new 963 Hypercar. Incidentally, he did the same in their IMSA season.
During last year’s running of the Daytona 24 Hours, Bruni and Proton Competition finished fifth overall in a competitive GTP category.
Furthermore, this year’s running will commence in the upcoming weeks with 61 entries across four categories, including the most entrants in the modern GTP era.
Bruni will join van der Helm and reigning FIA Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein as well as one more driver for the opening round on 25-26 January.
