Kiro Race Co has announced a new title sponsor with just days to go before the start of the new FIA Formula E season.
The American outfit has signed a deal with electric vehicle brand Cupra, a former affiliate of ABT, and will now be known as Cupra Kiro.
Part of the Volkswagen Group, the Spanish brand launched in 2018 and has sold over 750,000 cars since.
The organisation continues its forays into motorsport, having developed the world’s first 100% electric touring car – the e-Racer.
Alex Hui, Kiro’s Team Principal, said: “On behalf of Kiro Race Co, I’m delighted to welcome CUPRA as our Co-Title Partner for the 2024/25 season and beyond.
“Our partnership together marks a pivotal moment in our journey, and CUPRA’s bold, performance-driven mentality perfectly complements our ultimate ambition to one day race into history.
“Our story starts this weekend, and we’re looking forward to showcasing what CUPRA KIRO can achieve in São Paulo.”
Former driver Sette Camara joins Nissan
The news comes as former driver – when known as ERT – Sergio Sette Camara has been announced by Nissan as its reserve driver for the coming season.
The Brazilian, who was axed Kiro in favour of Porsche reservist David Beckmann, has found a Formula E reprieve of sorts, bagging himself a backup role with the Japanese marque, who look to embark on a season which they hope will see them challenge the recent status quo of Porsche/Jaguar dominance.
Sette Camara will be the team’s reserve and simulator driver, helping to develop the 4ORCE 05 GEN3 Evo car with Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato in-place as race drivers.
Upon the announcement, the 26-year-old said: “I’m thrilled to join Nissan Formula E Team. It’s always been a goal of mine to work with a big manufacturer in the series, and Nissan took a big step forward in Season 10.
“I believe that, with my experience, I can help the team to keep this momentum going. I’m pleased to become the reserve and simulator driver and contribute to developing the car in the right direction as we enter the GEN3 Evo era.
“I can’t wait to get started and be in attendance at my home E-Prix this weekend with the squad.”
