Andretti Global has announced the signing of former Renault engineer Rob White as Chief Operating Officer ahead of General Motors’ expected entry into Formula 1 for 2026.
The American marque’s latest recruit has a wealth of experience in F1, starting out with Cosworth in 1990, becoming its chief engineer seven years later.
Departing Cosworth in 2003, White joined Renault as engine technical director in 2004, before being promoted to deputy managing director of its engine operations a year later, being located in Viry.
White would play a significant part of the French squad’s success around the time, clinching both Drivers’ and Constructors’ championships in both 2005 and 06.
His role would also help Red Bull, then a Renault engine customer, take both titles between 2010 and 2013.
White was recently still in a similar role with the team transitioning into Alpine, but in June this year, he was a victim of its brutal restructuring plan under previous Team Principal Bruno Famin.
He confirmed his new position on his LinkedIn page, “I’m happy to share that I have just started as Chief Operating Officer – Andretti Cadillac at Andretti Global.
“Excited to join the team. Massively impressive first impressions of everything accomplished by those who joined before me. Relishing the challenge of all that lies ahead.”
Despite Andretti’s F1 future appearing to be bleak up until last week’s announcement, it had already begun a significant recruitment drive, hiring Nick Chester as technical director and Jon Tomlinson as head of aerodynamics, as well as Pat Symonds, who is expected to become its executive engineering consultant.
All three men worked with White at Renault, giving the team a strong identity already as it prepares to take its nascent steps into F1.
The team has also launched its new facility back in April, which is located at Silverstone, and will operate alongside its existing HQ in Indiana.
