George Russell took pole position for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix confirming Mercedes’ pace from earlier practice sessions.
Russell’s first lap was good enough for provisional pole and the British driver improved on his second lap as he will start the Las Vegas GP from pole.
Carlos Sainz put his Ferrari on the front row as he qualified 0.098s behind the Mercedes driver.
Pierre Gasly stunned the F1 paddock finishing in third place after setting a sensational lap and Charles Leclerc will start behind him on the second row.
Championship leader Max Verstappen qualified in fifth and his title rival Lando Norris will start behind him in sixth place.
Yuki Tsunoda split the McLarens after qualifying in seventh, Oscar Piastri finished eighth in a disappointing session for the Australian driver.
Nico Hulkenberg qualified in ninth and Lewis Hamilton rounds off the top 10 after making mistakes on both of his flying laps.
