A shock result last time out in Brazil has thrown Formula 1‘s midfield race wide open and our writers have given their verdict on who will come out on top between Alpine, Haas and RB for sixth in the Constructors’ Championship.
For a long time, the fight for sixth in the F1 Constructors’ standings looked like a two-horse race between Haas and RB. However, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly securing a double-podium at Interlagos has thrown a spanner in the works.
As it stands, with three rounds left in the 2024 F1 campaign in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi: Alpine holds sixth in the standings with 49 points, Haas is seventh with 46 points and RB is in eighth with 44 points. But who will come out on top?

Who will take sixth in the Constructors’ Championship: Alpine, Haas or RB?
Editor – Taylor Powling
Not a single individual in the F1 paddock could have anticipated Alpine being involved in the contest to come sixth in the Constructors’ Championship, let alone be in pole position. The Enstone-based squad appeared destined to conclude the season languishing in ninth place until the team’s unexpected double podium at Interlagos elevated it up three spots in the standings. But while Alpine showed progress with an upgrade in Austin before that remarkable Interlagos race, Haas has to be considered the team with the strongest package in the midfield pack and I can’t overlook the American outfit. However, RB can’t be discounted as the Faenza-based squad’s recent updates have dispelled the issues that derailed its encouraging opening to the campaign, while potential chaos in Las Vegas could still provide a big swing in the fight.

This one is tough to call after Alpine vaulted itself into sixth with a double podium in Brazil. However, barring further shock results I tip Haas to return to sixth by the time the chequered flag falls at the Yas Marina circuit in December. This would be a just reward for a much-improved outfit in 2024 and a fitting parting of the ways for Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen.

Before Brazil, you’d have sided with Haas, but Alpine’s shock double podium threw a spanner in the works. With grands prix in Qatar and Abu Dhabi likely to be conventional – limiting the midfield teams to a smattering of points – it could come down to if anyone strikes it lucky in Vegas. Beneath the obvious publicity of the double podium, Alpine has shown stronger pace since the Austin update, with Gasly running competitively in the US GP before a strategic blunder, and backed it up with points in Mexico and the São Paulo Sprint. A three-point buffer isn’t much, but I think should be enough to see Alpine over the line.

I believe Haas will clinch sixth place in the Constructors’ standings this season. Brazil was not a great weekend for the team. Magnussen’s illness was unfortunate, and Hulkenberg’s disqualification added to its misery. However, in Mexico, Magnussen drove brilliantly to score six points. Before Brazil, Haas scored points in five consecutive races and showcased why it’s been the best of the midfield pack in 2024. Alpine’s double podium in Interlagos has allowed it into the fight but looking at its results this year, it was an anomaly. Momentum is key and its package from Austin does seem to be having an effect now, but I believe the wet weather conditions played a big part in its performance. In terms of RB, people forget the car had a lot of pace in qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, and Yuki Tsunoda finished seventh in the race. Although, only scoring points in two of the last seven races is not good enough. RB has trailed behind Haas as of late and I could see Haas go back to being the best of the rest in Las Vegas.

RB will take sixth place in the Constructors Championship at season’s end, despite its difficult run of form. This valuable victory will come from consistency and a strong driver line-up, factors its rivals lack. While Haas boasts Hulkenberg, Magnussen’s performance has secured his departure at the end of the year. Alpine, while having two race winners on its books is hindered by an inconsistent and underwhelming car, its double podium in Brazil brought the team into contention for sixth place but it will slip back as rivals regain their composure.

I believe Haas will finish in sixth, having the faster car over its competitors. Alpine’s fantastic Interlagos result has put it in the ascendency, but Hulkenberg and Magnussen’s performances across the whole season have shown that Haas will be the favourites.
