The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix revealing a 44% discounted package in partnership with Lewis Hamilton is a worrying sign with less than a month until the race commences.
F1 is making its second outing on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit with the 2024 GP running from November 21-24.
Last year’s inaugural event was marred by disgruntled locals impacted by F1’s disruption, both pre and during the GP.
In addition, fans on the opening day of practice were sent away from the circuit early after a loose drain cover interrupted running.
Moreover, fans baulked at the steep ticket prices and in 2024, F1Destinations reports that the average price is $1617, nearly double that of the second most expensive race of the year.
The Lewis Hamilton Vegas Package, announced Tuesday, has arrived just 22 days before the GP weekend gets going.
The deal includes 44% off three-day West Harmon Grandstand tickets with assigned seating, complimentary food, water and soft drinks, access to live entertainment and activations plus a limited edition +44 hat.
All of this is yours for $672 per ticket, plus taxes and fees.
Is the Lewis Hamilton Las Vegas GP partnership a reactive measure?
Discounted packages attached to F1’s biggest star just over three weeks away from lights-out strikes as a desperate attempt to fill seats.
Furthermore, the West Harmon Grandstand offers great views of cars entering the final corner at high speed having come off a long straight.
Grandstand seating such as this should be damn near packed to the gills before the event gets underway.
If the Las Vegas GP needs Lewis Hamilton to fill up seats, why not announce the package well ahead of time?
This move reads as a reactive measure to dwindling interest in a race that had a troubled birth in 2023.
A similar occurrence came last year when fans were shocked to see Thursday opening practice single-day tickets going for as much as $1000.
As the 2023 race approached, discounts were applied considerably in order to raise attendance figures.
In 2024, a more concerted effort has been made to attract the general public.
This has included the introduction of a free fan festival that sold out, but only offered in addition a discount for race weekend tickets.
As well as this, back in August it was revealed hotel prices for the Las Vegas GP were at 50% of 2023’s rate, after a “soft start,” to sales.
