It is understood that the Spanish company and its relationship with Honda began to disappear following the departure of six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, who switched manufacturers to Ducati.
Marquez’s departure from the Japanese marque for pastures new led Repsol to adjust its financial contribution to Honda.
As a result, the energy and petrochemical company repositioned its logo for the 2024 season, making it less noticeable at first glance compared to previous years.
Castrol will not become Honda’s title sponsor for 2025, but depending “on a number of factors” it could be promoted in future years.
Castrol’s presence with LCR Honda
Castrol’s presence with Honda already exists in the MotoGP paddock, thanks to its key partnership with its satellite team, LCR.
LCR owner Lucio Cecchinello and Castrol agreed to a partnership and be the main sponsor of Johann Zarco, one of the team’s current riders.
Zarco is the lead Honda rider in the 2024 MotoGP championship with 40 points but occupies a distant 17th in the standings.
It is reported that this current partnership will not intervene with the new collaboration agreed upon with the factory works.
