WTRAndretti’s Louis Deletraz was the quickest driver in the second and final free practice session for the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s Battle on the Bricks.
Free practice concluded with the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura (#40 ARX-06) driver setting the quickest lap time by the end.
The 90-minute session took place with more preparation ahead of qualifying at 8.40pm BST today.
After 15 minutes of running, Giammaro Levorato spun his #55 Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3/GTD at Turn 3.
He temporarily stopped on the circuit but continued on his way which triggered a red flag in the process.
Ricky Taylor of the #10 WTRAndretti Acura ARX-06, was the next driver with an off-track moment at Turn 7 but continued without further issue.
Last year’s opening lap serves as a reminder on how the challenges Turn 1 offers as it narrows down from the yard-wide start-finish.
Phillip Eng briefly experienced this with an off at T1 and continued having tested the limit of his #24 RLL BMW M Hybrid V8 GTP.
#7 Porsche Penske 963 driver Felipe Nasr held the top spot for the majority of FP2, before Louis Deletraz took first with 10-minutes remaining.
Looking at the fastest in each category
With two purple sectors (1 and 2), Deletraz set the fastest lap time of 1:15.422 followed by Nasr’s 1:15.717.
Most encouragingly, Lamborghini Iron Lynx’s Romain Grosjean claimed third place in the sole #63 SC63 LMDh with a 1:15.840.
Taylor put the #10 Acura with a lap set as the checkered flag came out, a 1:15.853.
The other #6 Porsche Penske GTP entrant claimed fifth after the Frenchman set a 1:16.139 in the hands of Mathieu Jaminet.
In the LMP2 category, Ben Hanley of the #2 United Autosports USA Oreca 07 topped the category with a 1:17.560 lap time.
Second position was taken by (#52 Oreca) Inter Europol by PR1 Mathiasen’s Tom Dillmann which set a 1:17.732.
Paul Di Resta took third place in the #22 United Autosports USA Oreca after his quickest time of 1:17.807.
Narrowly behind the Scotsman was Le Mans 24 Hours winner Nicklas Nielsen (#88 AF Corse Oreca) and his 1:17.825 time.
Fellow FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar driver Mikkel Jensen rounded out the top-five in the #11 TDS Racing Oreca.
A 1:17.873 set him just 0.048 seconds behind the Ferrari Hypercar factory driver.
‘Rexy’ on top of the GT field
AO Racing’s #77 Porsche 911 GT3.R was the quickest GTD Pro competitor as Laurin Heinrich set a 1:23.424 time.
Behind him was the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage of Alex Riberas and his 1:23.516, followed by the Daniel Serra’s 1:23.525 in the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296.
Fourth was taken by Marvin Kirchhoefer in the #9 Pfaff Motorsports McLaren 720S after his fastest effort of 1:23.576.
Nicky Catsburg finished in fifth in the #4 Corvette Z06 as he set a 1:23.635 lap time.
Anders Fjordbach’s #86 MDK Motorsports Porsche topped the GTD category followed by just 0.098 on championship-leaders Winward Racing.
The #57 Mercedes-AMG driver Russell Ward set a 1:23.920, followed by the #78 Lamborghini Huracan of Forte Racing and Delvin De Francesco’s 1:23.992.
