Marc Marquez left it late to snatch the top spot off Jorge Martin to finish at the top of the classification in the first MotoGP practice in Misano.
Marquez’s lap time of 1.32.082s was enough to edge out Martin by 0.063s.
After a two-week break, MotoGP returns to Misano for the second consecutive race weekend at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
At the start of the session, the track looked greasy and relatively damp following periods of showers earlier in the day.
Only three riders formulated lap times in the first half of the practice session, with only Brad Binder, Pedro Acosta, and Marco Bezzecchi featuring in the practice classification list.
Soon enough, newly announced 2025 Pramac rider Jack Miller went out, and his lap times were on par with those of his teammate Binder.
A few more riders opted to head out to try and gather some much-needed data as the riders started to formulate strong lines to create standout racing lines.
With 15 minutes of the session left to go, championship protagonists Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin strung together hot laps.
Maverick Vinales and Fabio Quartararo had stints at the top of the classification, with the latter setting back to back fastest laps.
With the final 10 minutes ticking down, Acosta had his moment at the top of the timesheets and produced the fastest lap times on each occasion in a multiple-lap burst.
Pramac and Gresini Ducati riders of Martin and Marquez posted in their best lap times in the closing stages to hold the top two spots.
With the whole grid formulating lap times and bettering previous runs, the final classification sees a chaotic mix of solid finishes and surprises.
Marquez and Martin lead the way with second Pramac Racing rider Franco Morbidelli compiling together a solid third place, with championship protagonist Bagnaia finishing fourth.
Vinales finished as lead non-Ducati rider with a respectable fifth spot, ahead of Gresini’s Alex Marquez and rookie sensation Pedro Acosta.
Binder maintains his positive spell in form to finish eighth, ahead of Quartararo, placed right in the middle of a factory KTM sandwich.
Miller’s tenth spot puts him ahead of Miguel Oliveira and Enea Bastianini, with the Trackhouse and factory Ducati rider separated by only 0.002s.
Aleix Espargaro finished his first practice session in 13th, edging out the final Aprilia rider of Raul Fernandez.
Augusto Fernandez performed his best practice outing of the season with 15th place, ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio, with both riders 1.1s and 1.2s off the lead lap time.
Luca Marini finished as lead Honda rider, with the LCR duo of Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami establishing 18th and 19th spots.
Joan Mir finished as the final Honda rider ahead of surprise names Marco Bezzecchi and Alex Rins, with the latter opting not to formulate a strong lap time.
