Envision Racing has announced that Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns will continue as its drivers for the upcoming 11th season of the FIA Formula E championship.
The British outfit – a powertrain customer of Jaguar TCS Racing – has opted for continuity after both men between them scored three podium finishes across the final four races of Season 10, which had been a difficult campaign overall, with the reigning Teams’ Championship winners only managing sixth spot in the table.
Motorsport Week understands that, up until the end of the season, Envision had been keeping tabs on other drivers, with Antonio Felix da Costa and Dan Ticktum mooted as potential replacements, as well as discussions with Paul Aron, who had impressed for the team after standing-in for Frijns at the Berlin E-Prix.
However, Team Principal Sylvain Filippi was convinced by his current drivers’ late-season showings and made the decision to stick rather than twist.
In a statement, Filippi said: “It’s great to have continuity in our driver line-up as Sébastien and Robin lead us into Season 11. Despite Season 10 not being our strongest year, we are confident that the momentum we gained in the closing rounds can be taken into next season and put us back where we want to be.”
Buemi, a Formula E veteran with 13 wins and a championship under his belt, said: “As a team, we improved significantly towards the end of last season to get back to the front of the grid, and the results showed this. We will continue to push to ensure that we head to Sao Paulo with the same level of competitiveness.”
Frijns said: “I started off Season 10 relatively strong, with a podium in Round 3, however it took some time to adjust to the new car and style of racing. We worked extremely hard to make that adjustment and by the end were fighting at the front again, so our focus now is on continuing that into next season.”
The Silverstone-based team has competed in Formula E since the beginning of the championship in 2014, originally racing under the Virgin name, and has been partnered with Peugeot, DS and Audi, before being renamed as Envision in 2021, and becoming a customer of Jaguar in a year later in Season 9, the partnership immediately yielding the Teams’ title with Buemi and Nick Cassidy at the wheel.
