Heart of Racing has moved their #27 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GTD entry into the GTD Pro category for this weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round at Indianapolis.
Ahead of the Battle on the Bricks, the Heart of Racing team has entered their #27 GTD entrant into GTD Pro thus joining Ford Multimatic and Corvette by each running two GTD Pro competitors.
An altered driver lineup for six-hour endurance race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course will see Roman De Angelis remain for his GTD Pro debut with the help of Mario Farnbacher.
The German co-drove the #23 Aston Martin with Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
After the previous VIRginia International Raceway round, the #27 suffered a penalty which retracted their GTD podium finish.
The provisional entry list initially set the #27 to have Roman De Angelis, Zach Robichon and team principal Ian James beforehand.
As a result of this change, the selection of GTD Pro entries has increased to 13 and the GTD class deducted to 22.
“I’m looking forward to another IMSA endurance race, especially with this one being the first endurance race at Indy,” said De Angelis.
“It’s exciting to be joining the GTD Pro field and driving with Mario.
“My mindset really doesn’t change much as we always have GTD and GTD Pro cars mixed in and battling.
I’m looking forward to the experience and new challenge.”
Farnbacher, the 2020 IMSA GTD champion, added: “I’m really looking forward to teaming up with Roman this weekend.
“This weekend I will be working with the #27 team instead of the #23 team like I have been with.
I’m looking forward to the challenge with Roman, it will be cool to team up with him; he’s a really good, fast, young guy.
“It’s fantastic to get a chance to get selected from the drivers to be there and a big thank you to the team.
“We also get to be at the famous Brickyard. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of the endurance race there.”
De Angelis scored fourth place last year in the GTD category as the Battle on the Bricks was a 160-minute sprint race.
For the GTD Pro category’s first appearance at the Brickyard, the penultimate race of 2024 will take place on Sunday 22 September.
