FIA Formula E has announced a continuation in its upward trajectory in fan engagement upon the conclusion of the gripping 10th season of the sport.
With data taken from Kantar Sport, Conviva/Hookit, Google Analytics for TV viewership metrics, social media analytics and website and app usage respectively, Formula E have concluded that significant spikes have been shown, thus proving a significant growth in the series’ popularity.
TV audiences has risen by 35 percent to reach a cumulative worldwide 491 million, with six races outperforming the most-viewed race of Season 9. The Monaco E-Prix in April reached the highest-ever audience with 40 million. Mexico, Japan and Spain all saw their highest-ever TV audiences for a Formula E race, as well as the USA, which is already known to have boasted higher figures for their coverage of the Mexico E-Prix than the previous year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Fanbases have also increased, with China’s growing to 118 million, 27 million in Indonesia and 11 million in Brazil, the location for round one of Season 11. A global rise in fandom was also recorded, with a staggering 374 million now adjudged as fans, increasing by 23 percent. This materially helps Formula E close the gap on Formula 1 and MotoGP as fastest-growing motorsport category in the world.
The series gained 1 billion impressions across all major social media platforms with a 147 percent increase in video views on FE-owned platforms, completing a growth of 20 percent in its social media following.
FE used Potentia Insight [certified by the Market Research Society] to conduct what they call a “comprehensive survey” to 33,000 across 16 different markets in two waves, with results showing that fans believing that it is nearly twice as innovative as F1, and is as exciting as it has ever been.
Formula E’s CEO Jeff Dodds said:
“I’m delighted to reveal these impressive results which demonstrate the continued growth of our fanbase worldwide, as well as increases in our global TV audiences and social media following. We continue to be bold in our ambitions, and this data shows our commitment to exciting racing and innovation, cementing our position as the fastest-growing motorsport in the world against a backdrop of esteemed and more established series.
“We are still incredibly ambitious and are already planning an even bigger and more exciting year for Season 11, which starts in just a few months.
“Thanks to our loyal and growing fanbase, our partners and broadcasters, we will continue pushing the boundaries as the noisiest, quietest motorsport championship in the world.
“It’ll also be our fastest yet, as we launch our GEN3 Evo car, capable of 0-100km/h in 1.82 seconds, which promises even more entertaining racing across our 11-event season.”
