DS Penske has announced that Maximilian Günther has agreed a deal which will see him race with the team through the upcoming 2024/25 FIA Formula E campaign.
Günther embarked upon his debut in the all-electric series in 2018 with Jay Penske’s entrant, then known as GEOX Dragon, as he attained 20 points across 10 rounds.
The German has since proceeded to gather experience with BMW Andretti, Nissan and Maserati in the period since then, recording five race victories and 10 podiums.
Günther will now replace Maserati-bound Stoffel Vandoorne as he returns to the Penske fold and partner two-time FE World Champion Jean-Eric Vergne in Season 11.
“I’m very happy to be joining DS PENSKE,” he said. “A powerhouse in the championship and a project with strong vision.
“We share the same ambitions and are all driven to be at the top of Formula E.
“Representing DS Performance, a manufacturer which has won several championships already is a real privilege.
“Same for being team-mate with a champion like Jean-Eric Vergne, it’s something I really look forward to.
“A very special element for me is to drive for Jay’s team again, he brought me into the championship when I was 20 years old.
“I’m proud to be part of the team and excited of what we will build together in the future.”
Penske is endeavouring to improve once more on a strong season last time out, which included five podium finishes as it wound up third in the Teams’ Championship.
“I am very excited to welcome Max back to DS PENSKE,” Penske added. “His undeniable talent makes him a perfect fit for our ambitious objectives this season.
“His race craft is extraordinary, he combines a cool, strategic mindset with a fierce determination on track.
“Competing alongside Jean-Eric Vergne, the talented driver with most front-row positions last season, we are more driven than ever to achieve our championship goals.
“PENSKE AUTOSPORT concluded Season 10 of Formula E with a solid third place in the Teams’ championship.
“The Team is eager to build on past successes and continue their pursuit of excellence in the series.”
