The Hungaroring – long-time host of the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix has seen extensive restructuring to the pit-lane complex commence, just weeks after hosting this year’s race.
After hosting the 2024 Hungarian GP on July 19-21, the entire pit-lane building, including the pit-lane itself, has been demolished at the Hungaroring.
Posted to the official @HunagaroringF1 X account, images of the demolition were accompanied by the caption: “We told you that it is going to happen…
“Less than a month after the Hungarian GP, and next phase of the redevelopment works is happening at an F1 pace.”
The Hungaroring hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1986, billed as F1’s inaugural race behind the Iron Curtain.
Since then, it has become a mainstay on the F1 calendar and in 2023, a five-year contract extension ensured the circuit will continue to host the pinnacle of single-seater racing through the 2032 season.
To keep pace with Formula 1 and ensure it sees out that lengthy contract, Hungaroring’s rebuilding work will see it become thoroughly modernised.
Similar work has been conducted at Monza as ‘The Temple of Speed’ looks to set its F1 future in stone.
Classic circuits can no longer remain on the F1 calendar on historic value alone and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has laid down the gauntlet to prestige venues that they will have to continue modernising.
Speaking during a Liberty Media investor call last year, Domenicali said: “When historic [circuits] are only looking behind there’s something that’s no good, when the historic [circuits have] a good foundation to look ahead with a different future that’s beautiful.
“That’s why with the so-called historic grands prix we are focused on understanding what is the view of the future.
“To be arrogant and believe that you have a granted future because you had a race since 100 years, to be very honest is not enough.
“I think in this moment everyone is understanding that, and we are not playing any games, we are very transparent with them, we are saying if they want to be in the calendar they need to be doing the things we believe is right for them and also for us as F1.
