With a lead of 45.8 seconds with two stages to go, Kalle Rovanpera crashed out of Secto Rally Finland on stage 19, the penultimate stage of the event… His elusive home win will have to wait another year.
The on-board footage shows there was a massive rock on the racing line in a fast left hander less than two km from the end of the stage. The front of the car lifted off the ground and from then on, the rally leader was a passenger and there was nothing he could do.
Sebastian Ogier inherits the lead, with Thierry Neuville looking to increase his championship lead moving into second place.
Elfyn Evans also left the road 200m into SS19 the rear of the Yaris got away from him on a fast left hander, hit a tree on the outside of the corner which catapulted Evans across the road and into the trees on the inside of the corner.
